The importance of the veterinarian
The responsible ownership of dogs, cats and other animals, includes the follow-up of a veterinary doctor, specialized professional to attend emergencies and clinical routines of the pets.
Having as much importance for animal life as doctors for human life, veterinarians have the responsibility to guide and clarify the daily life and routine of each animal, adequately supplying and underlining its individual and particular needs, according to the breed, the age and species, for example. Routine preventive exams, vaccinations and regular visits are part of the professional's routine. The animal treated by him even has a control record.
In cases of illness, for example, it is the professional who has the responsibility to check the best treatment options, which in addition to medication can include serious surgeries, in the hope of providing healing and animal welfare. It is also the vet who informs the family that owns the animal that there is no more chance of cure and together with them decides on the sacrifice.
Other very important aspects of the veterinarian is the role that the professional assumes when we deal with public health, both in urban centers and in rural areas: research guided by veterinarians has a fundamental role in the control of diseases known as “zoonoses”, which are transmitted from animals to animals. human beings. In countries with great livestock activity such as Brazil, their knowledge is specialized in animal nutrition, pasture management, administration, personal hygiene and even the rigorous inspection of food products of animal origin.
Observing specific skills and knowledge, the World Health Organization, in 1946, created Veterinary Public Health, which defined new areas of activity for the profession, namely: the control of zoonoses, food hygiene and laboratory work, biology and even the experimental activities. Thus, the veterinarian ends up having four areas of specialization: the Clinic, which works with care, examinations and minor surgeries for pets; Environmental, which studies wild animals in their natural habitat, identifying species, diseases, and contributing to the preservation of animals; and the Control and Technology for Animal Populations, which studies herd development and care techniques.
Always have a trusted veterinarian, do biannual evaluations, or before if you notice something different with your animal! The veterinary doctor is the ideal professional to guide on disease prevention, food and management!
